[dropcap]F[/dropcap]oreigners eligible for social insurance in China enjoy social insurance benefits under the law.

Taking the old-age insurance as an example, foreign employees who have paid contributions for over 15 years and have reached the legal retirement age (60 years for men and 55 years for women) in China can receive basic pensions monthly.

They may also receive a monthly pension abroad but need to provide a living certificate issued or certified by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate, at least once a year, to the social insurance agency responsible for the pension payment.

If a foreign worker leaves the country before reaching the prescribed pension age, his social insurance personal account is maintained.

If a foreign worker comes to China for new employment, the accumulated years of social insurance contribution shall be calculated. He may also take the social insurance savings in one lump sum upon request.
