You can apply for the cancellation of the residence permit at the Entry-Exit Bureau with the work permit Cancellation Certificate

First, you need to cancel your work permit and residence permit

Cancel the work permit and residence permit and apply for a 30-day stay visa. This means that you have 30 days of stay after you cancel your valid documents, allowing you to deal with other things you need to do before leaving.

After terminating the labor contract with the company, the employer shall apply to the decision-making authority (The Bureau of Foreign Experts) for cancellation of the work permit within 10 working days from the date of occurence of the matter. The required documents include:

1. Application Form for cancellation of work permit. Fill in online and print out, affix the official seal of the employer and upload it to the system;
2. Evidence related to the termination of the employment relationship, the termination of the contract, or the reason for cancellation.

The decision-making agency will issue a report within 5 working days. Certificate of Cancellation of work permit is an important document. The document is the official proof of your working experience in China. If you continue to work in China in the future, a cancellation certificate will be used for the work permit application. It is a good idea to ask the company for a Recommendation Letter, which may be for your future job search.

After the cancellation of work permit is completed, the company’s HR or yourself shall bring the original of uploaded documents and the Work Permit to the Entry-Exit Administration Bureau to collect Certificate of Cancellation. You can apply for the cancellation of the residence permit at the Entry-Exit Bureau with the work permit Cancellation Certificate, and apply for a 30-day stay visa at the same time. The permit can be obtained within 7 working days after the residence permit is cancelled.
